Just making sure everyone that normally attends Outloud Open Mike at The Beebe Estate in Melrose knows that we take off the months of November and December due to crazy scheduling surrounding all of the wonderfully fun end-of-year holidays — so, there’ll be no Outloud over the next 2 months — and the very next Outloud Open Mike goes down on January 28 at 7:30 pm { all feature details &/or themes to be announced }

however

We want to draw some attention to 2 upcoming events of interest just in case you want to still enjoy some Outloud-like, spirited fun this week:

The Somerville Laughter Club re-opens its doors this Thursday, December 4th, after a long, long haitis.

Come explore the many benefits and varieties of laughter by using breathing exercises and light body movement to practice laughing in a fun, nurturing social setting.

Second up:
Squawk Coffeehouse proudly features internationally-renown composer and musician David Amram a bit later in the evening on that verySame Thursday, December 4th.

The next Outloud Open Mike at The Beebe Estate in Melrose goes down this Wednesday, May 28th
and features 5 of the writers published in Scriptor Press Sampler 15

Local poet, writer, performer and artist Raymond Soulard, Jr. established Scriptor Press — an annual compendium of creative works from his independent literary publication, Scriptor Press New England { http://www.scriptorpress.com/ ) way, way back in 1995 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Scriptor Press New England is currently published in Melrose and this month, Scriptor writers Raymond Soulard, Jr., Ric Amante, Melissa Wattenberg, Tom Sheehan and Joe Coleman share their visions of life, love, nature, and meaning through their shaping of the written and spoken word. You’ll also be able to pick up their work in the printed Scriptor Samplers distributed at this month’s Outloud and other similar live events { in keeping with the philosophy that art belongs to everyone! }

Sign up for the open mike starts up at 7:15 pm and performances starts at 7:30 p.m. Each open mike participant gets 10 minutes to sing, play, read and generally ‘do their thang’. Outloud’s creative atmosphere always promotes a receptive, warm and respectful vibe for the evening.

April’s Outloud Features Howie Newman

The next Outloud Open Mike at The Beebe Estate in Melrose features the melodious singer-songwriter musical stylings of one of our favorite local-area legends — Howie Newman { howienewman.com }. We hope you’ll join us this Wednesday, April 23rd to check out another wonderful feature set of Howie’s songster antics, along with his rather infamously entertaining between-song banter. Its bound to be a good time for all!

Howie interweaves original songs with comedy and audience participation. An inveterate performer, Newman has opened for Tom Paxton, Vance Gilbert, Bill Staines, Lui Collins, Don White, and Modern Man. His CDs { Baseball’s Greatest Hits ( Volumes 1 and 2 ); Trust Me You’ll Like It; You Shoulda Been There: Howie Newman – Live In Concert } have enjoyed national radio airplay and exposure on The Dr. Demento Show, National Public Radio, Midnight Special, as well as WBZ Radio.

Don’t forget, we also always have our open mike, too! Sign up for the open mike starts up at 7:15 PM and the evening’s performances start with the first open miker at 7:30 PM sharp. The next Outloud Open Mike at The Beebe Estate for poetry, prose and music goes down this Wednesday, March 26th.

This month, Outloud features accomplished Boston-Area writer Peggy Rambach, whose latest novel ‘The Lons’ recently made The Boston Globe’s Bestsellers List. Peggy’s previous works include: Fighting Gravity ( memoir ); When the Animals Leave ( short stories ); and two anthologies ( stories from cancer survivors in ‘All that Matters: Memoir from the Wellness Community of Greater Boston’; and ‘Seeds of Lotus: Cambodian and Vietnamese Voices in America’ ). Rambach’s non-fiction has appeared in The Christian Science Monitor, The Guardian, The Journal of the American Medical Association, and The Boston Globe ( both Magazine and Books Section ). She has received two awards from the Massachusetts Cultural Council Individual Artist Grant in Fiction, as well as the St. Botolph Foundation Grant in Literature. Her writers’ workshops for under-served populations earned her The 2005 Literacy Champion Award from The Massachusetts Literacy Foundation.

Manville’s credits include her songwriting, performing and recording with Kirsten & Dave including their CDs “Dreams That Just Won’t Let Go” and “Things You Learn“. Kirsten recently garnered radio air play on Nick Noble’s Folk Revival Show on WICN and she also enjoyed achieving 2013 songwriter finalist status at The Ossipee Valley Music Festival.

The open mike sign up starts at 7:15 pm, performances start at 7:30 pm. Outloud fosters a creative, nurturing atmosphere. The audience is always warm, receptive and respectful.

kirstenHere are some upcoming events that happen to fall between our January and February Outloud installations at The Beebe Estate. You’ll notice some familiar names and faces in the mix that we wanted to give a shout out to as a way to show our love and support, so here goes:

On Saturday, January 18th 2014 Improv Boston out in Central Square Cambridge will feature the play ‘History 101‘ — ‘A humorous collection of history-themed scenes, monologues and songs’ — as directed by the incomparable A. Vincent Ularich.

On Thursday, January 30th 2014 come out to celebrate the release of Kirsten Manville’s first solo CD, “Come With Me” out at The West Lynn Arts and Business Center. The show starts at 8pm and there’s an extremely reasonable $5 cover charge to get in. Get more information from the Facebook Event Page right here.

On Friday, February 7th 2014 the feature-length black comedy and social media commentary film The Nigerian Frequency kicks off The 39th Boston Sci-Fi Film Festival out at Somerville Theatre in Davis Square. This special event premier screening and follow up panel Q+A starts at 7pm. Christopher Borden co-produced the film with a small crew of his film collaborative up at Chelmsford TeleMedia in Chelmsford, Massachusetts.

And on Thursday, February 13th 2014 designer and performance artist lou suSi gives a talk out at MassArt’s Thursday Night Lecture Series entitled ‘A storyFirst Approach to Human-Centered Design‘.

This month’s Outloud Open Mike Coffee House at The Beebe Estate in Melrose once again offers up an evening of All Open Mike!

Sign up starts at 7:15pm — and then the All Open Mike performances and readings promptly begin at 7:30 and run to 9:30 p.m.

Each performer gets approximately 10 minutes to perform poetry, prose, music or other chosen form of expression.

Outloud fosters and maintains a nurturing, creative atmosphere that is both receptive and respectful to all performers and audience members alike.

Every month we meet up in The Beebe Estate’s first floor Art Exhibit Space at 235 West Foster in Melrose { visit beebeestate.com for more information about The Beebe Estate }

Free parking is available on the grounds.

As previously mentioned, this month’s special installation of Outloud Open Mike @ The Beebe will be an All Open Mike evening — so come on out and read, play, sing or just say something out loud — ‘sGonna be fun ;]
