April’s Outloud Open Mike Coffeehouse for poetry, prose, and music — features Saugus poet and writer Tom Sheehan. This Wednesday, April 27th — Tom will read from his vast array of original works in poetry and prose.
Sheehan is a 28-time Pushcart Prize Nominee who authored A Collection of Friends, From the Quickening, In the Garden of Long Shadows, Epic Cures and Brief Cases, Short Spans. His novels include Vigilantes East, Death for the Phantom Receiver, Murder at the Forum, Death of a Lottery Foe, Death by Punishment and An Accountable Death. Many of his books are available in electronic form, including The Westering ( nominated for a National Book Award ). Tom’s other publications include: The Saugus Book honors his home town; This Rare Earth & Other Flights ( poetry reflecting wonder and insights); Korean Echoes ( nominated for a Distinguished Military Award ), illuminating the human toll of war; Cross Trails, The Nations and Where Skies Grow Wide ( Westerns in short story form from Procol Press ). Tom has won Best of the Net Awards for 2015 ( KYSO Flash and Right Hand Pointing ) and short story awards in 2013 and 2014 from Nazar Look, which also issued his collection Suns of Guns, Inc. in 2015.
Open Mike sign up starts at 7:15pm — performances and readings run from 7:30pm to 9:30pm. Each performer is allotted 10 minutes. Outloud’s creative and nurturing atmosphere is always receptive, warm and respectful.
There is no cover; donations are accepted for costs ( including refreshments ) and local charity.
Outloud meets the 4th Wednesday of each month at the Beebe Estate’s art exhibit space at 235 West Foster, Melrose ( Go to beebeestate.org for more about The Beebe Estate ).
